This is a purchase you will not regret! After extensive research and well informed decisions, at least we thought, we were initially very happy with our original mattress purchase (to be clear it was not this item). We landed on a middle ground in terms of budget while still hitting some important marks we were looking for. It checked many boxes but we later found it was hardly water resistant, which led to a very late night of trying to desperately clean as best we could. We then found the integrity of the mattress broke down within a year of purchase, sagging considerably in the middle of the mattress, after short term use. We were disappointed.
While this may not have been available initially. We wish we would have selected this Naturepedic Organic Breathable Mattress from the start. We love that this is a 2-stage product that can grow with our baby, is lightweight and easy to work with. The older my baby has grown, I now find the waterproof piece essential and love that it is organic and free of Harmful Chemicals. As a first time mom searching and researching crib mattresses, having a breathable option was paramount for me, safety was of utmost importance. Now as a slightly more seasoned parent, safety is still incredibly important, though I don’t give the breathability function quite as much significance. With that said, I do feel it is helpful for my toddler who runs very hot and needs as much airflow and circulation as possible!
With frequent sheet changes, having something lightweight is such a convenience and something I highly recommend. Likewise, considering your baby spends a significant amount of time in their crib and with close proximity, the materials and product makeup are an area to strongly consider a splurge. We have found this is well worth it!
My only critique as we have been using this mattress is the slight “crunching” and noise the wipeable layer makes. I love that it is wipeable…we have had an instance in the past where this would have been incredibly helpful but I do not love the texture and feel of the fabric. My son commented on the mattress being slightly hard and seems to notice the sound when he moves around. It doesn’t seem to bother him, but he has mentioned it. I would love to see a slight tweak in this layer and then I would consider this the ultimate crib mattress.
With that said, it is a major step up from our existing mattress, that we researched significantly and is highly rated, but missed some major marks. Functionally, this mattress is spot on, and for most, the peace of mind and protection is more than enough to overlook a minor potential annoyance.
